New auto gearbox

1982 628 CSi. Integrated fog lamps with the front end panelwork. The 635 CSi still had the fog lamps mounted in front of the front spoiler.

On the mechanical side there was a new 4-speed automatic gearbox available, with the forth gear being a overdrive. This made a significant improvement on fuel economy for the automatic versions compared to the previous 3-speed gearboxes.

BMW presented a new 6 series model in September 1983 (even though sales did not begin until beginning of 1984), it was a model with a big “M” — M635 CSi.
